Shaghayegh

Shaghayegh is a thirteen year-old girl from Kermanshah, Iran. Shaghayegh was born with congenital hearing loss and at the age of seven underwent a surgical implantation of an artificial cochlea (an inner ear part). However as she got older she soon grew out of her implant. The artificial part that Shaghayegh needs costs ten million Toman (Iranian currency). With the help of Iranians both in Iran and the U.S. we were able to raise the much needed funds and present Shaghayegh with the gift of hearing in spring of last year. Shaghayegh has always attended regular school and continues to be one of the top students.
